Celebrating the 2024 HSC Major Works Evening

Earlier this term, we held the 2024 HSC Major Works Evening, a celebration of the hard work of our Year 12 students across the past school year.

We were thrilled to welcome so many students, parents and other members of our school community as our Year 12 students showcased their Major Works of various shapes, sizes and disciplines!

Hear below from our Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr Andrew Brown, as well as some of our students who proudly displayed their Major Works on the night!

Staffing Announcement: Director of Secondary

Illawarra Christian School is excited to announce that after a thorough recruitment process, Mr Peter Richardson has been appointed to the role of Director of Secondary.

Mr Richardson has a background in PDHPE teaching, and has held the Head of Secondary role at Shire Christian School for the last few years.

As he prepares to join the ICS staff team next year, Mr Richardson said the following:

"I'm so excited to be joining the ICS community in 2025. I love working in Christian schools and building meaningful connections and partnerships with students, staff, and parents.
I look forward to bringing my rich experiences from Shire Christian School to ICS and making a meaningful difference in 2025 and beyond. As a Wollongong local, I've always heard great things about ICS, and it sounds like the perfect place to be.
I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you."

We extend our congratulations to Mr Richardson on his appointment and look forward to welcoming him to the ICS community in 2025!

Senior students hit the slopes for the 2024 Ski Trip

Our ICS senior students had an amazing time at Perisher ski slopes for the annual Senior Ski Trip earlier this month!. The weekend's weather was perfect, with bluebird days illuminating the snow-covered landscape.

Many first-time skiers and snowboarders fearlessly embraced the challenge, making remarkable progress. The camaraderie among our group was heartwarming, and Mr. Clarke’s Christian testimony resonated with everyone.

We thanked God for safe travels and cherished every moment in this Winter wonderland! Check out some photos below.

Chelsy heads to Peru

Wishing all the best to Year 11 student Chelsy Wayne, who is currently in Lima, Peru preparing to compete at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships!

Before Chelsy departed for Peru, local MP Ryan Park visited ICS to present her with a certificate expressing his congratulations, after acknowledging Chelsy's achievement in NSW Parliament!

Mr Park's certificate read as follows:

"Mr RYAN PARK (Keira-Minister for Health, Minister for Regional Health, and Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast) –
Today I would like to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of all members of the Keira electorate and community. We are lucky to live in a region that provides so many avenues and opportunities for individuals to showcase their talent, whether this be through sport, education, music, art or more. The talent in the Illawarra is unmatched.

That's why I take great privilege in informing the house of one of the outstanding achievements of Illawarra Christian School attendee and Keira constituent, Chelsy Wayne, who has been selected to represent Australia at the upcoming 2024 World Athletics Under 20s Championships in Peru, which will take place from 27-31 August of this year. At just 16 years of age, Chelsy has been selected to represent Australia in the Discus Throw event. Chelsy has worked incredibly hard through countless hours of training to be selected as a part of the team that will represent Australia at the championships. From everyone here in this place, good luck Chelsy.
No matter the outcome, I know you will do your family, friends, community and country proud. We cannot wait to see your future successes unfold."

The Championships kick off on Tuesday, August 27. We echo our congratulations and eagerness to see what's in store for Chelsy as she compete in Peru!

Challenge: Accepted for Year 10 Science & Engineering Students

During Week 2, ICS was represented by a 30-strong team of students at the University of Wollongong, competing in the annual Science & Engineering Challenge! It was a successful day for ICS, with the team placing second out of 16 teams in the region!

Teams of three to four students collaborated and problem-solved through a variety of novel challenges involving wind turbines, balsa wood bridges, dozens of electrical cables, and a timetabling nightmare, to name a few.

Students demonstrated commendable teamwork, collaborative skills, and ingenuity throughout the day, and will now represent ICS again at the State Final later this week!
