Year 6 experiences an educational excursion to Canberra

Year 6 students recently enjoyed an exciting two-day camp to Canberra, packed with educational and fun activities. They visited several key sites, including the POD Playground at the National Arboretum, the National Electoral Education Centre, Parliament House, the Australian Institute of Sport, the Australian War Memorial, and Questacon.

On the first day, students participated in an engaging role play at the National Electoral Education Centre, where they experienced the voting process and debated a bill in the House of Representatives at Parliament House. They were thrilled to visit the Australian Institute of Sport, where they saw where our top athletes train and tried out the simulation equipment.

The second day was equally enriching, as students gained a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by those who fought for our country at the Australian War Memorial. The day concluded with hands-on fun at Questacon, where students explored various interactive exhibits.

Both students and teachers had a fantastic time, combining learning with fun and making lasting memories.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to our school in the amount of $30.00 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
