Academic, Community, Secondary School

At the end of last year, our Stage 5 Textiles Technology students spent some time researching specific ways in which using their skills could be used for the benefit of others.

The students voted on their favourite movements or charities to come up with a shortlist of causes they felt passionate to support, wished to contribute to in practical ways, and those with specific and current needs.

Students gathered materials and instructions to create their own handmade offerings.

A number of students also spent one of their end-of-year service days making up specific items for these causes.

The kindness and servant-hearted attitude was very evident and humbling to see amongst the students.

Escabags

Escabags Ltd is an Australian registered charity which seeks to distribute ‘Escape Bags’ for victims fleeing domestic and family abuse. ‘Escape Bags’ are created by volunteers, ready to be packed at the Unanderra warehouse and are made available at no cost through local stockists. The bags are packed with high-quality necessities that a victim of abuse and potentially their children may need when initially escaping a dangerous or abusive situation.

Some of our students designed and sewed up tote bags for Escabags which were delivered on completion to in person Escabags Founder and CEO Stacy Jane at the Unanderra warehouse from where this charity operates.

1000 hearts

1000 Hearts is a global kindness community in which hand-stitched padded felt pocket hearts are made to be given away as an act of kindness to anyone in our lives that could do with some extra courage, hope and comfort to carry around with them.

These hearts have been gifted to our very own ICS Counselling Team, ready to offer to students who might be needing a little bit of extra comfort when having ‘one of those days’.

Animal pouches

Our students also were also quite passionate about supporting injured wildlife. They were keen to make up fabric pouches or liners of various sizes to keep small injured or abandoned mammals safe and warm.

The pouches have been directed locally to WIRES and interstate to Wildlife Victoria.
