Stage 5 Textiles Technology students have again participated in the Wool4School Design Competition!

Read more about the 2024 competition below and take a look at some of our students' entries!

Our Stage 5 Textiles Technology responded to this year’s Wool4School Design Competition brief to create a unique design made from wool, taking inspiration from the earth’s natural elements – earth, wind, fire and air.

Their designs could be based on fashion, architecture or visual arts. Students began by identifying their specific end-user and developed inspiration boards to communicate their design ideas.

As their designs could include up to 4 pieces and needed to incorporate at least 70% of Merino wool, they researched the specific properties of the wool fibre and investigated how these could be included in a design that embodied an interpretation of their chosen element.

Their illustrations showcased their use of colour, texture and decorative techniques, with annotations to highlight how the characteristics of wool fabrics and wool innovations could be applied to their design and intended end-user.

A final creative statement charted their design process and justification of fibre, yarn, fabric, and design choices.

We love seeing our students tap in to their creativity and engineer specific designs based on their knowledge of an incredible fibre!

Congratulations to Year 10 student Izzy, who was a Prize Bundle Winner for her entry in the competition!
