Christmas is coming! "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a Baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." (Luke 2:10-12).
This term, all of Illawarra Christian School, from Prep to Year 12 have been collecting gifts and preparing to share God's love through the joy of presents for the Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child appeal.
The youngest of our school were off to a great start, with Prep managing to fill 13 boxes before the end of week 3 to send on their way to children in need. Our primary school contributed significantly to the cause as well.
For most – if not all – of the young people who receive these gifts it will be their first ever Christmas present. After receiving a shoebox gift, many children have the opportunity to enrol in The Greatest Journey – a dynamic, 12-lesson Bible study course that guides children through what it means to faithfully follow Jesus Christ.
On November 1, all of high school banded together to pack all of the donations from both Primary and Secondary into the shoeboxes. This year, our school was able to assemble and pack 140 boxes to send to children in need from around the world.
The students had a great morning folding and filling these boxes, and celebrated the occasion with a gift-wrapping competition.
A special mention to the Nebo house captains, Ella Story and Amelia Davies, for their efforts in coordinating the house wrapping competition. It was a hard-fought competition, with Nebo House showing their experience with a perfectly wrapped old-school telephone for the win.
We encourage you to pray with us that these gifts will change the lives of those who receive them and that more people will come to know Christ through this program.
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40)
Finally, we would like to thank all the families for getting on board and helping this great cause.
