ICS executive staff announcement for 2023

It is with great excitement today that we are able to inform our wider school community of our executive staff team for 2023, who join our Principal, Mr Simon Lainson, in leading Illawarra Christian School next year. Some of these faces will be familiar to our community, having served in these roles (or other roles within our school) in previous years. Others are new additions to Illawarra Christian School, and we are keen to get to know them and excited about the expertise and passion they will bring to our school.

Melinda Sharpe

Deputy Principal (Prep-12)

Melinda is very excited about being part of the Illawarra Christian School community and feels privileged to be able to continue in Illawarra Christian Education (having previously served as Head of Senior School at Calderwood Christian School) in her new role as Deputy Principal (K-12).

She is looking forward to growing strong relationships with the parents, staff and students. Melinda is passionate about developing in students a love of learning through a Christian worldview which equips, strengthens and prepares them for life in God's world.

Andrew Brown

Director of Teaching and Learning

In 2023, Andrew is continuing as Director of Teaching and Learning. He will continue to teach Senior Mathematics classes, bringing his love of Maths to our older students. Outside of the classroom, he will be involved in instructional training, professional development, assessment and reporting.

Andrew loves learning and discussing good ideas, and says that in 2023 he is most looking forward to the new ideas and expertise that the new members of our executive team will bring with them to ICS. He is excited to think about how we will use new ideas to continue to improve all the teaching and learning which takes place at ICS.

Simone Brown

Director of Student Learning Opportunities

In 2023 Simone will continue to serve as Director of Student Learning Opportunities. Her role is ever-changing, and always challenging and she loves it! Supporting students to thrive in their learning journeys no matter their starting point is Simone's absolute passion, and she says that in 2023 she is excited to continue to work with our fabulous team of expert practitioners to think through the individual needs, gifts and passions of our students and staff.

In the classroom, Simone will take her Year 12 Japanese Continuers and Extension students through to their HSC in 2023. She says she is so excited to be part of a dynamic executive team in 2023 and looks forward to working together to serve our incredible community and to shine Christ's light into the lives of our students.

Heather Mansley

Director of Wellbeing

Heather has been involved in Christian education for more than 20 years and joins us in 2023 from her previous role as Head of Middle School at Wagga Wagga Christian College.

Heather completed her Bachelor of Education through Charles Sturt University and the National Institute for Christian Education.

She is looking forward to joining the ICS community as the Director of Wellbeing and believes in the importance of working in partnership with staff and families to support students’ cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development.

Heather believes that working in a P-12 setting is an amazing privilege! Being able take the journey through the various stages of learning and development with young people and their families is something that she feels blessed and honoured to be able to do.

Caleb Jones

Director of K-6

As Director of K-6, Caleb will be responsible for the development and effective implementation of the K-6 curriculum, actively supporting the integration of a biblical worldview into all aspects of school life.

He is particularly looking forward to working collaboratively with learning support, enrichment staff, and the multi-disciplinary team to meet the diverse needs of students. Caleb will be leading and working with colleagues to plan, teach and evaluate the impact of evidence-informed teaching strategies to improve student outcomes in literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.

Caleb is most passionate about nurturing a positive learning culture that fosters a sense of wonder and curiosity in students and teachers, inspiring them to be courageous shapers of culture in our learning community and beyond.
