Camp Week 2022

Camp Week 2022

Two weeks ago our Secondary students set out on adventures far and wide! However, earlier that week we were not very hopeful that Camp Week 2022 would happen! Weather conditions that caused flooded tents, campsites closing down, COVID taking down many staff, and dashing the camp dreams of students all left us wondering what was going to happen next. But God was so gracious to us and we are so thankful that many of us still got to go away on camp and make some wonderful memories.

Year 7 was rained out of Koloona the DAY BEFORE camp but ended up having a spectacular camp at the idyllic Blue Gum Lodge in Springwood.

Year 8 controlled the action up at The Tops campsite in Stanwell Tops.

Year 9 changed tack two days before camp and shifted to a day camp option going a bit deeper with the Rite Journey program. They then hit up Luna Park on Friday.

Year 10 raced around Wollongong and then enjoyed some beach walks and sunsets at the stunning Bulli Beach Caravan Park.

Year 11 headed up to Chaldercot in the Royal National Park for some epic study time.

And Year 12 pulled off our first Year 12 Day camp where they met some ICS alumni to think about possible future careers and enjoyed some much-needed community building time in their year group after so much time together missed during the lockdown.

Here's what some of our students had to say about camps week:

Piper S - Year 7 camp

Key highlights of Year 7 camp were getting to spend time with friends and grow closer as a year group. We had amazing food, activities, teachers and it was total good vibes. At around 10:30 each night Mrs Alexander would come round to our cabin and sing us a song called the belly button song. If you're curious, go ask her to sing it for you, you won’t regret it! A key skill Year 7 learned was how to scatter in the middle of the night when you hear a teacher coming. We weren’t very successful on the first night but by the second night we had the 'drop and roll' mastered! Overall, our camp was absolutely spectacular!! Thank you so much to our teachers for organising it, we had so much fun and we are so thankful.

Abbey P - Year 9 camp

Year 9 camp was a great time to connect with new people and make fun memories. I, and many others, really enjoyed building campfires, going rock climbing, and of course, going to Luna Park in Sydney. I loved spending a day with my friends going on crazy rides and having fun.  A funny thing about camp was when Mr Vermeer got out the spray paint, and we all went wild spraying our hair with crazy colors. We made Mr Vermeer do it too, don't worry! I enjoyed having a guest speaker, James Ayre, from Anchor Church Sydney, come in and share his story with us. His story inspired me to think more about Jesus and how he should be a key part of my life, especially as a teenager. At camp, I got to reflect on my childhood and think more about the person I want to become. I loved the interesting conversations this brought up with my peers. Overall camp was very fun and memorable.

Rosie F - Year 10 camp

A key highlight of camp for me was the 13km coastal walk from the Seacliff Bridge to Bulli. Although tiring, we all persevered, stopping for a nice lunch on the beach along the way. Everyone, including teachers, was so encouraging as we were able to reflect on the spectacular views of God's creation! To top it all off, we were able to watch 'Shrek' later that night!

Check out our Highlights reel for all the best moments of camp week.

A huge thank you to all our amazing staff who worked so hard in the months before camp, planning, and preparing. And a massive thank you to those who were able to come to camp, taking time away from their families to provide our students with amazing opportunities to grow, to be challenged, and to be encouraged in their faith. Our staff are amazing!!
