Our school's senior Visual Arts Students took part in an excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW on Wednesday, engaging with 2022 HSC Major Works and participating in workshops on the day.
The students viewed the Art Express exhibition which showcased 2022 HSC major works, also attending an Art Express case study seminar where they heard three students talk about their art practice and their process in developing a body of work.
After this, students went to the newly built North Gallery building to participate in a learning workshop investigating the work and practise of Francis Upritchard, an artist who had been commissioned by the Gallery to make 3 large-scale sculptural works for the welcome terrace at the front of the building.
Students spent time observing, touching and walking around the three giant mythical beings, and then engaged in a number of water colour and clay art-making activities inspired by Upritchard’s sculptural aesthetic and practise.
