Future Problem Solvers place first in the world!

For the second year running, ICS has placed FIRST in the world for the Presentation of Action Plan at the Future Problem Solving International Conference!

A very big congratulations to our team of five Year 7 students – Keira Stevens, Claire Wang, Rosie Beavan, Sophia Janeski, Jessica Olsen, and their coach Mrs Simone Brown for this incredible achievement!

Our team's first-place result in the Junior Division of the competition came among a field of roughly 50 teams from all around the world – an amazing accolade for our students!

Our team of Year 7 students, along with Mrs Simone Brown, and an entourage of parents and siblings, arrived at Indiana University on Wednesday, June 5 for the beginning of the 2024 Future Problem Solving International Conference.

The team was sent into a two-hour lockdown following the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, June 6. Based on a future scene surrounding the conference's topic of air quality, which they received at the start of the lockdown, the team had to write about the challenges those in the scene faced from a multitude of perspectives; determine an underlying problem that would form the base for them to ideate solutions; judge those solutions on criteria they developed; and write an action plan.

On Friday, June 7 came the second part of the competition, where the team performed a four-minute drama to encapsulate their Action Plan and sell it to the judges. That night, it was announced that our students were one of ten teams to have reached the Presentation of Action Plan finals, where they would perform again to determine their place.

The team presented their Action Plan again in the morning on Saturday, June 8 (see video below), with the Presentation of Action Plan awards announced at the Variety Show that evening. The Top 5 Junior Division teams were called to the stage, and were read out in order from fifth to first, with our students' team (TJ-105) eventually announced as the winners!

This is an incredible achievement for our Future Problem Solving team, whose first-placed result was among a field of 50 teams from all around the world.

A very big congratulations once again to Keira, Claire, Rosie, Sophia, Jessica and Mrs Brown for this outstanding result!
